A. Most if not all schools start their orientations in August and classes will most likely start in September. If you want to absolutely certain of a date, then look on the school's website. I checked Harvard's 08-09 calendar which should be fairly similar to this 10's

A. My suggestion would be formulas, calculations, text and pictures in a decoupage. How about "The Thinker"? You could show him from several angles. It could also just be question marks or a single question mark formed by a cloud. Good Luck.

A. I make my students do an "Annotated Bibliography" which is an evaluation of their sources. That's one way to decide which is best to use, and helps you keep your sources straight. One way to keep focused on material that you actually need is to have a rough Outline - and of course your thesis statement. If something does NOT support your Thesis then do not use it. Something else to keep in mind is to use sources that are not biased and not too old, and that are credible (reputable sources). Whenever possible, go to the Primary source (where it was originally published) for instance, the _New England Journal of Medicine_. Don't use wikipedia for your source, but you can look at the site to determine what sources they used. Then go to… [cont.]

What is the difference between grade 10 math applied and academic in canada?
Q. Exams are coming up and I was wondering if I should bother studying with my friend who took grade 10 applied math. As apposed to me who took academic.
Asked by Goldwin - Sun Jun 14 20:17:25 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. it would be better for you to study seperately, because first of all the grade ten math exam for applied is open book. at least in my school, second, they don't go anywhere near quadratics. which is probably the most important part of the academic course, i took academic and failed, but i've put in all my effort so when it comes to content i know exactly what i'm talking about. plus my friend took applied and she could never help me with homework because their work was really different. it would however be good for you to study with her as well because that's a little bit more practice hope this helps :)

Why do those who sport high academic credentials always lean left?
Q. The real movers and shakers in the world are not those who chose to languish in academic stagnation. I believe that those who can achieve do it on their own and those who can't live a "holier than thou" life in academia.

A. Universities are highly organized FIEFDOMS. Each employee(instructor) receives power and prestige in return for their LOYAL service. Loyalty (to institutions"s goals/policies/viewpoints ) and the individuals overall "persona" are more valuable than the individuals mental acuity!Anyone (with the help of Teaching Assistants etc) can provide the "standardized" curriculum for the subject. The ability of the professor to generate $$ (grants),prestige, etc serves the university. The students are simply the cash cow that generates the income. In short, most professors are neither brilliant, creative or even interested in their subject--unless they can find a "creative" way to get attention or $$. What are the intellectual property policies concerning academic papers written for conferences or journals ?
Q. I am wondering what are the exact legal terms concerning the Intellectual Property for academic or corporate research papers published in proceedings, presented at conferences or realized within a specific academic assignment ? Who owns the papers ? If this is the university or academic institution, is the author still allowed to diffuse his/her papers freely ? Why do we have to pay for a big proportion of the academic papers found on the Internet ? Where to get more information about this topic ? Thank you !
Asked by Matthieu - Thu Nov 29 10:59:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Generally speaking the journal in which a paper is published owns the copyright. They recover their costs (and make a profit) from selling access to the journal. The broader questions of ownship of intellectual property and the universities is a huge issue. Each university has its own policy and, typically, a professor agrees to that policy by virtue of signing an employment contract. You could look at various universities' websites to see the variety of cases.

Asked by mahesh - Wed May 27 14:03:35 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can only go straight to an Australian university if you have A-levels which is equivalent to the various year 12 qualifications (depending on which state they are from) received by Australian students. Year 12 is generally completed at age 17 or 18. GCSE appears to be equivalent to our year 10, so you will have another 2 years of high school before university and will start here in year 11 if you start at the beginning of the academic year. I guess your GCSE results and a discussion with your new school will determine the year if you start school in August. Our academic year begins at the very end of January and runs through until about the 2nd week of December with breaks of a couple of weeks at the end of each 10 or 11 week term i. [cont.]

What is the difference between college prep classes and academic classes in high school?

A. college prep is the level of class...its is the basic class that is needed for college. Academic classes can be either your core classes (i.e. english, math) or they can be academic level. Academic level classes are the regular level classes that most people are working at. At my school college prep is the lowest level and competative college prep is the "academic" level while at some schools college prep is the "academic" level

Q. Just a completely unscientific curiosity poll here. Place the following academic subjects in order of your personal interest, along with an explanation for that ordering if you care to give it. Physical sciences Biological sciences Social sciences Engineering Mathematics Culture and languages History, law and politics Art and music Philosophy If you've actually done something as far as pursuing some of your first choices (studied them in college, worked in a career in them, etc.), that'd be interesting, too.

Why does the academic left consider many social fields of study as scientific?
Q. Why does the academic left consider many social fields of study as scientific? It would really be nice if you could somehow tie in the Science Wars (early 90's) and maybe some philosophers/historians of science.
Asked by SyaoranX - Tue Jun 2 01:41:15 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well anyone who uses a phrase like "the academic left," clearly has a limited understanding of science and education to begin with, so I don't feel the need to go into too much detail. The reason these things are considered "scientific," is because of the processes involved. When the world is viewed in an objective empirical way, and evidence is used to back claims that is scientific regardless of the discipline it is being applied to. In fact, when the term "science," is used correctly it is really a catch all term for an understanding of existence based on empirical evidence, it is only those people who truly misunderstand it who attempt to define it in the narrow terms you are implying in your question.

Is there a study to show a relationship between teaching yourself a musical instrument and academic success?
Q. I've read plenty of studies where they show a relationship between music abilities and academic success and how generally the musically talented perform better than the non-musically talented in academics such as math and reading. But I want to know if anyone has done a study on the relation between teaching yourself a musical instrument and academic success, even if you're already musically talented and want to teach yourself a new instrument. What is the best way to find an education related job out of the academic environment?

If he is well-spoken and somewhat dynamic, he could probably even start his own business consulting companies on; public speaking business writing business communication There is a high demand for this type of training- basically teaching people why its innapropriate to use LOL in a business email

Do I have to have a masters degree to be undergraduate academic advisor?
Q. I am going to complete my MBA in about a year. I am interested in using it to have a career in a university setting. Obviously, I can teach, but does one have to have a masters degree in order to be an undergraduate academic advisor at a univ? Just to clarify, I am not talking about a mental health type of job. I'm referring to the people who meet with students and help them through planning their courses etc.

A. Strictly speaking no. You generally just need some teaching experience and your MBA will be sufficient for that. However, especially at the college level, getting a Masters in counseling will be a great advantage. If I was interested in that sort of thing I would do a councilling Masters. Thanks Bill

Q. I need to present a sample syllabus for an academic writing course at an interview at a university in Taiwan later this week. Can someone give me an example of what a basic academic writing course covers? Thanks in advance!!!
